The Exercise Science Cert could potentially be the most important certification offered by CF. While we do not spend time learning or perfecting a movement, we did focus on the science behind the body’s response and adaptation to CF. We learned the science of why CF works. In the past, we lived by the model: input (CF) into the black box (body) and we get an output (fitness). This weekend was a deep dive into what is going on inside the black box, our body. When the science behind the success is defined, we are able to use this knowledge as a tool for discussion and instruction. This is especially important when we are faced with situations where we have to defend the most elite fitness philosophy known to man.
WOD – 4.28.09
Four rounds for time:
21 KB Swings
15 Thrusters (95#/65#)
9 V-Ups
Cash Out: 500m Row

Why do the WOD’s always look easier than they actually are. I guess that’s good. 11:25 at 35#/80#. 2 – 10m x 4 shuttle runs 43 sec/49 sec with 45 sec rest in between.
Wow…
SOunds like a REALLY bitchin’ cert, Mariessa. It’s great to be able to back up all the evidence we see everyday with our friends and colleagues, and be able to explain why it works.
Should I, like, make an appointment to talk to you now, since your so knowledgable and all?
Great (killer) workout today. 50-55# Swings, 95# Thrusters. 13:49.
Still think thrusters are evil. I think they have now taken the place of burpees in the suckage category. It’s sick that I think of that as progress.
I had veins throbbing in my head after that wod. I’m learning to love thrusters though!
Thanks for that write up Mariessa. As you know we played host (kidnapped) Ruth for a few days there and she was telling us all about you guys and the work you put in your box. That cert is one that me and my husband Jonny would love to attend. Fingers crossed it will be available somewhere near your place next year or so cos we’re coming to Southbay, like it or not.
Let’s tie up Southbay & Northern Ireland in a group wod someday yeah? Shared pain and all that…
If Ruth sounds weird when she gets home it cos I’ve been teaching her the Northern Ireland accent.
Helzy
Strength Bias: about 5X5 push press…built up to 135
WOD: 55# KB, 50# DBs in 17:30ish
This WOD absolutely crushed me.
C/O: 500m Row in 1:33
Felt like an old man after this workout and joined marcus in using a foam roller for my legs. I’m sure i’ll join forrest on thursday with an hour long warmup before the WOD
Sub “Everything Hurts” workout
21 55# KB Swings
15 Gyno Presses
15 Back Extensions
9 GHD
16:25
Warm Up – 78:19 PR
C/O – Dodged it again. Suckers.
Don’t forget to mention you did 1-arm gyno presses!
You didn’t “dodge” the Cash Out if you’re too gimp to do it.
I’m thinking rowing would be exactly what you said you could not do.
BTW – awesome PR on the warm up!
Matt, You used 50# db. That is not only heavier, but much harder than a barbell! Great job! Get some rest!
HELZY! Love seeing you post on our comments! I’m thinking we should start up something like that Painstorm thing. You guys can have the honor of coming of with the first one. How about for the end of May sometime? I’m sure you and Smut have NO problem coming up with a crusher! (just excuse us Yanks for doing it in pounds!)
oh and um. Do you need an MD for gyno presses?
Mariessa, can’t wait to get all the info from ya about the cert. Are they planning another one in the future?
They are planning another, but gave no hints as to when and where. This was only the 2nd one, so they are improving all the time. The test opens online this weekend and we have 10 days to take it. Once you start, you only get an hour to complete it. No pressure, tick, tock.
