Parkour, also known as Free Running, is a method of transport that relies solely on the human body. It’s different from traditional running or walking in that it leaves the trails behind and moves in a less linear pattern. Practitioners of parkour, or traceurs, use movements to bypass obstacles such as walls and branches to efficiently move throughout their natural environment. Parkour has also been featured in many recent films and television commercials.
There have been a few CrossFit Journal articles on incorporating parkour training into the mix. After all, part of CrossFit’s prescription for fitness is to regularly play and learn new sports. This article will get you started and then there are a few subsequent articles covering specific movements.
Tori and I have talked about attending a weekly Parkour Basics class at the LA School of Gymnastics in Culver City. If any of you are interested we can get a group together and make plans to try out their Thursday night class. The fee is $15 cash money.
WOD – 4.24.09
6 Rounds:
30 squats
10 chest-to-bar pullups
5 clean and jerks (155/105)

I expect to see large attendance this afternoon. Great tough workout that can be scaled as needed!
Fantastic way to finish the week – Remember you can rest all weekend!
LOL @ “cash money”. So Gardena gangsta!
If I had an iota of gymnastic ability, I might consider trying parkour. As it is, I like my bones in their unbroken state but I’ll be happy to mock…err, I mean cheer from the sidelines.
ooooohhh daddy!!
After watching Chip, Ruth and Greg fight through this WOD in the blistering sun this weekend, I will be thankful that I have a roof over my head when doing this indoors later today.
i dont know 6 rounds seems like an awful lot… maybe we can change it to 3 rounds or even 2 rounds, i mean its friday, i just want to relax and have a few (14) beers ya know?
Hey. Just wanted to share a few huge prs from the last couple of days. 13:23 angie and 405 deadlift. Classes end in a few weeks so hopefully I’ll be coming in over the summer.
Stephen, you bet! I’ll be happy to accommodate your request for a 3 round workout. You can do 3 rounds of 60 squats, 20 C2B pullups and 10 C&J instead. Better?
marcus, how is that at all better?
Hello All,
Yes, just tons of fun at the 6am class!
Scaled to 135#, did the C2B, 20:05.
I got a screaming headache in the second set of C&J. Had to repeated stop to writhe in pain. I think my erectors freaked out, and all of the anguish filtered up into my neck. Took an ibuprofen when I got home, but still pretty ouchy in the neck.
Murphy scaled to 53#, with jumping pullups in 23:50.
Way to go Murph!
Stephen, it’s obviously better…it’s only 3 rounds:)
One of these days, I actually have a post without typos!
Max, doesn’t look like it’s your day today.
Dammit! BTW, I’m totally down for some Parkour. Keep me on the list, Al-we-oop!
Hey, that one actually looks alright.
Fun (?) WOD today. I can’t believe those guys did it in that heat last Saturday.
19:11 scaled to 115# on clean/Jerk. C2B
That parkour thing sounds interesting. I’ll give it a shot if you’re
looking for volunteers. When do the enrollments for the class
start?
We’re going to get an idea of who’s interested first and then we’ll organize a trip to the gymnastics gym in culver city. We’ll keep you posted. So far it’s you, Tori, Max and I. Should be fun fellas!
Michael,
Can’t wait to have you back! Hurry up summer! Hope all is well your way. We are doing a free beach WOD on 5/2 if you are interested.
