Have you ever walked into the gym and looked at the board only to see a repeated movement from earlier in the week? ”Squats? Again?” “But we ran YESTERDAY?!” Yes, CrossFit is a constantly varied sport, but it is also functional. Functional movement is described as movement that pertains to your everyday life be it picking up your toddler or groceries, lifting heavy boxes, or walking up stairs.
There’s a great video of Dave Castro paralleling our complaints of repeated movements with a swimmer telling his coach, “But Coach, we swam yesterday!” Granted, we try to keep the WODs constantly varied, but every once in a while, we may throw a curve ball and *gasp* throw in situps or squats back to back. For example, take last week’s squat intensive Bear, Front Squat Max, and then Fran! Embrace the suck, and power through.
