With the sectionals done, it’s time for CFSB to look forward. The affiliate cup will be held on May 8th and 9th at the SoCal Regional qualifiers at UC Irvine. Each affiliate can send four to six members plus a non-competing coach (yours truly). There must be at least two men and two women on each team. We will pick the team based on a CrossFit Games style competition. We have over 100 members now, so the competition will be fierce.
Sadly, one of our own is leaving us to fight wildfires in Arizona. Lauren’s last day at CFSB will be April 1st until she returns back home in 6 months. She’s a phenomenal athlete and her effort during the workout is nothing short of admirable. For the past few months, Lauren has been using CrossFit to train for the grueling physical demands of being a wildland firefighter. Lauren somehow manages to destroy every WOD and manages to do it with a smile on her face. Maybe it’s the socks. I remember when Lauren first started at CFSB at our old location last spring. Her and I were in the middle of a WOD together which involved a decent amount of running. I had heard that this girl was a “badass” from some of the other athletes. I remember finishing the lifts faster than her and taking off on the run. I had a good 100 yards on her and about half way, I could hear her footsteps. I just kept thinking, “C’mon Forrest. Don’t let some girl catch you. You’re faster than she is”. It was like she could hear my thoughts because it only made her run faster. She passed me and I was never able to catch her.
This Friday we are having a happy hour which is also doubling as Lauren’s going away party. We’ll see if she is as good at drinking and dancing as she is at CrossFit. If she is, we’re all in trouble.

I love each and every one of you. It’s weird to think that the people i met a little over two months ago are the people I am going to miss the most. Southbay Crossfit changed so much when I was away last, I can’t even imagine what it will be like when I return. I just hope that I always have a place to come back to

My O’Reilly genes (only a 1/4) lost out to the Olshenitska Russian genes (1/2). Me and my sensitive stomach will be swinging Russian kettlebells (I guess?) instead of swilling Guinness at Gasser.
