Well, after spending two long days at the OC Throwdown, I can honestly say that while I am completely wiped out, I had an awesome time and wouldn’t have missed it for the world!! Each and every one of the competitors, Courtney, Danielle, Sean, Jon, and Lisa, gave their all this weekend, cheered on by their awesome supporters from CFSB: Rebecca M., Forrest, Ashley, Kelly H, Vinny, Jeremiah, Dane, Meredith, Remy, and Darek.
Just to get a little idea of the competition this weekend for everyone that didn’t get to watch in person, here is how the weekend went:
The first WOD, “Smoke’n Gun” included movements we have never done at CFSB, specifically Burpee-Deadlifts, Burpee-Power-Cleans, Burpee-Squat-Cleans, and Burpee-Clean-and-Jerks. Each of these movements involve the athlete touching their chest to the bar before performing the appropriate barbell movement. Lets just say these are hard…
The next WOD, “Murder”, involved doing SUICIDES with a heavy Prowler Sled. And you thought suicides were fun without any weight, imagine doing a suicide while pushing a sled, waiting one minute, then doing it again. This was likely the toughest WOD of the weekend for our athletes: imagine a mixture of Fran and Prowler pushes.
The last WOD for the day was “Rockafella”, the WOD we did on Friday at CFSB: a run, 3 rounds of KBS and pull-ups, followed by another run. This was a tough WOD on the hands and forearms, especially when trying to go as fast as possible in competition.
Wiped out for the day, all our athletes went home and recovered for day 2. First up was “Chippa”, a WOD of 50-40-30-20-10-20-30-40-50 reps of various movements; it reminded me of a CFSB Saturday workout with no partners. To even finish this workout was an accomplishment.
Next up, a WOD of heavy clean and jerks and 150 double-unders, which tested both the athlete’s strength and mental stamina as they had to lock out a heavy (200/165 for guys and 115/95 for girls) after a weekend full of WOD’s.
Keeping only the top 24 guys from each division, and the top 12 girls from each division, the athletes stepped up for the final workout: 30 HEAVY thrusters (145/125 for guys, and 100/75 for girls) followed by a 450m-ish run. Jon and Lisa threw down and both rocked the final WOD, with the thrusters being the heaviest Lisa had ever done.
Overall, the athletes from CFSB did awesome!! Every competitor showed up ready to work hard and go full-tilt all weekend. They never wavered, never slowed down, always pushing to the limits and testing their own capacity. Way to go, guys!! As a coach, I couldn’t be happier or expect anything more of my athletes.
Workout of the Day 1/17/2011

B. “Elizabeth”
21-15-9

Wow, did I read that right: no one from the advanced women finished WOD 3…. ?
umm holy crap .. i looked really really really fat in that picture .. no bueno ! and what the hell is wrong with my form .. seriously .. no bueno ha
You guys are amazing and I’m so glad I got to be there to watch and judge.
I continue to be blown away by how consistently strong our CFSB athletes and fellow affiliate athlete/friends are. Fingers crossed I’ll be back in action this summer to join you again!
IMO, the ones that smacked WOD3 down were the Women’s Masters (40+ division). I saw several finish with time to spare. Those mamas were RIDICULOUS.
PS: Sean- Don’t make me roll my eyes at you mister. You did an unbelievable job this weekend in your FIRST Cf competition. Kudos man. Nicely done.
