Nothing can match Olympic lifting for overall power and strength development. It requires exact skill and precise movements in order to perfectly execute.

What to Expect with Olympic Weightlifting

The goal of our Olympic weightlifting class is to improve our member’s snatch and clean and jerk technique. We take an in-depth analysis through understandable cues on how to perform the lifts. All participants are encouraged to spend several sessions using a dowel/empty barbell before they begin this class program. This class is open to beginner, intermediate and advanced level athletes.

The Snatch

The weightlifter takes the barbell from the floor to an overhead position in a single motion. The movement is one of the most explosive and athletic movements, but is also a very finesse lift. The weights are very heavy, but don’t feel as heavy if the movement is executed perfectly.

The Clean and Jerk

This movement starts with the barbell on the ground. The lifter then takes it overhead in two separate movements; cleaning it to the shoulders then jerking it overhead into a full lockout position. This movement helps develop strength and power through the pull, clean, squat, and jerk.

Olympic weightlifting requires arm, shoulder, leg, and hip power. The movements of both the snatch and the clean and jerk are very precise, and need to be executed correctly to prevent injuries. We will teach members how to complete each movement properly in order to conquer the workout.
